O.C. sets trends in fight against hoarding

I hadn't thought so much about rats since a bedtime discussion, years ago, that came after my stirring reading of the Pied Piper.

Orange County isn't Hamelin. But the guy I was listening to at a recent meeting of the Orange County Task Force on Hoarding was definitely discussing rats.

It takes a moment to process the relationship between piling up stuff in your home and rats, and then, when it hits you, it's kind of horrifying.

Hoarding is a mental disorder that compels people to collect too much stuff and then to have great difficulty getting rid of it. The result can be a home that is unhealthy and hazardous.
