Humane Society rescues nearly 90 cats from Rutledge home

The Humane Society of the United States helped rescue nearly 90 cats today from a home on Rutledge Pike saturated with feces and urine, officials said.

“Some of the cats were blinded by the ammonia stench,” spokeswoman Jordan Crump said. “It was impossible to breathe in there. It’s a typical hoarding situation. From the outside, it looks like a perfectly normal brick house. You’d never guess what was going on inside.”

A landlord discovered the cats earlier this week after a car crash hospitalized the tenant, an elderly woman who lived there with a mentally disabled daughter, Crump said. No charges are expected against the owner, she said.

“He opened the door and found the cats everywhere,” Crump said. “There were holes in the walls and ceilings where some of the cats were living.”..." More
