Owner of 94 seized dogs ordered to post bond for care

The owner of 94 dogs seized Aug. 4 from a home just outside of Martinsburg was ordered Thursday by Berkeley County Magistrate Joan V. Bragg to post a $25,490 bond for the care of the animals through Sept. 3.

A hearing to determine if there was probable cause to seize the dogs from YipYipDog Kennels LLC at 1206 S. Raleigh St. was continued by Bragg until Aug. 24.

Dog owner Leonard Woods Jr. has not been charged. Saunders said the matter remains under investigation.

One of the 85 pit bulls seized has died from giardia, according to Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Stephanie Saunders and Berkeley County Animal Control officers. In addition to the pit bulls, animal control officers also seized eight French bulldogs and one other dog, Saunders said..." More

The former owner of 94 dogs that were seized from a home just outside Martinsburg in August has been charged with 94 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.

Leonard Woods Jr., of Louisville, Ohio, was in Eastern Regional Jail Tuesday night after being arraigned by Berkeley County Magistrate Sandra L. Miller just before 4 p.m., according to magistrate court and jail records.

Miller set a $28,200 bond for the defendant, according to court records.
