Animals adopted; more taken in

5 horses and two foals are seized during the weekend

After two consecutive trips to try to adopt seized animals from the Abilene Animal Shelter last week, Jean Aaron brought six hens to her home in Loraine on Saturday.

“I would’ve taken all fifty,” the 83-year-old said.

All 60 of the seized animals, including eight horses, a bull, heifer and the chickens were adopted this weekend, said Aaron Vannoy, animal services manager for the city.

Meanwhile, over the weekend 15 more horses and two foals were seized from the 4700 block of North Pine Street.

The first animals were seized June 18 from the 2100 block of Huckleberry Lane and described as being in “poor condition.” Animal services had contacted the animals’ owner, Romero Rueda, “many times before” about improperly caring for the animals.
