More than 20 small dogs found in cages and living in deplorable conditions at a property in Willards have been transported to the Wicomico County Humane Society for adoption.
All of the dogs were terrier mixes, according to Humane Society Director David Fitzgerald, who assisted in removing the animals in May.
"We found the dogs from a tip from the Maryland State Police and we responded with animal control and the situation was not good for the animals. So the owner surrendered them to us," remarked Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald believes the dogs were locked up due to a hoarding situation. He said the canines had to endure very poor living conditions.
"The grass and weeds were very high through kennels," he explained. "A lot of them had turned- over water bowls, mold, mildew, [and[ feces in the kennel areas."..." More
