An Iowa woman convicted of cruel animal neglect and for dumping 23 dead or dying dogs in a Nebraska cornfield in 2008 was re-sentenced by a Hall County judge to nine years of probation.
The woman was described as having an animal addiction.
So why would a person who is a collector of animals harm them?
News 5 spoke with a Mary Lanning Psychologist who said death of a close friend or family member is a huge reason why people turn to hoarding.
But particularly with animals, people are looking to satisfy a need and fulfilling that need can become so excessive where they don't even realize they're harming the animals.
"They want items because they need something status wise," said Psychologist Jeromy Warner.
