Dead mice also found at scene of bird rescue

MORAINE, Ohio —
Dead mice were also found at a nonprofit exotic bird rescue

organization where over 100 exotic birds were rescued Thursday.
The Humane Society of Greater Dayton, with assistance from the Humane Society of the United States, executed a search warrant at Wings Over the Rainbow, 4950 Springboro Pike, and removed an estimated 140 mostly medium to large exotic birds from the facility.
On Friday, Humane Society officials said dead mice were also found in the facility.
The warrant was the result of an investigation into complaints that the birds were being kept in poor conditions and not being properly cared for, said Brian Weltge, president and CEO of the local Humane Society.
"We knew birds were in trouble based on reports and our own investigation," Weltge said. "The conditions are not acceptable for not only birds but humans as well." Surrounded by Wings Over the Rainbow board members and volunteers, the group's founder Deborah Shell stood outside the yellow crime scene tape as Humane Society volunteers removed the colorful parrots, macaws and cockatoos from the building and loaded them into a truck..."  More

At least the mouse was DEAD. Looks like a witch hunt against a rescue who is trying to do good. If the birds didn't have a place to go, what would have happened to them? That is what a rescue does--takes in unwanted birds. I hope Wings wins their court case.

Doesn't sound like the "raid" was approached legally either. Normally Animal Control checks first and the place is given a chance to "clean up". Yes, I agree, a witch hunt instigated by the Humane Society looking for donations for THEMSELVES. Also, they want to get control of the rescue's birds, to sell or euthanize???? Another feather in the Humane Society's cap!
