41 animals seized from pet-rescue activist

SAND SPRINGS — Even though police seized the animals out of her house this week, a pet-rescue activist still hopes to find permanent homes for more than 40 cats and dogs.

After obtaining a search warrant for a house in the 100 block of North Roosevelt Avenue, police took away 41 cats and eight dogs Tuesday morning, officials said.

Tammy Willemstein, who runs a small nonprofit called Furry Companions, cooperated with the search and even helped round up the pets, officials said.

She found most of the animals as strays, while others were abandoned in front of her house.

The animal shelter euthanized five cats that had lung problems, but the rest of the animals appear healthy, said animal control officer Tommy Wagner..."
