Symposium focuses on hoarding, associated issues

By MICHELE SAGER

What's the difference between a collector and a hoarder? When should someone step in and help a hoarder? How should a hoarding home be handled?
These, and other questions, will be tackled by the experts at a Hoarder Symposium Sept. 30 at Aston Gardens, 12951 Linebaugh Ave.
Organizer Dale Smrekar said the free seminar is the first of its kind in the area. It will bring together professionals in various fields who deal with the issue of hoarding. Those include psychologists, attorneys, appraisers and people who clean homes of hoarders...
...Smrekar said there are different types of hoarding including animals, paper and garbage. The symposium will take place from 12 to 4 p.m. A second symposium will take place Oct. 7 in St. Petersburg.
