Portage woman accused of hoarding cats, snakes, rodents in mobile home

The odor of animal waste and overabundance of cats, dogs, rabbits, snakes, rats, mice and a guinea pig overwhelmed officers responding Friday to a complaint in a trailer park.
Forty-nine caged animals, most without food or water, were “stacked on top of each other from wall to wall and floor to ceiling, allowing very little room to walk or stand” in a back room of 63-year-old Patricia Scott’s mobile home, according to her arrest report.
Scott, 63, was on the front porch of her home, in the 200 block of 2nd Street, between U.S. 20 and Woodland Park, when police arrived at about 12:50 a.m. to investigate a complaint of animal neglect. She denied having any animals and said she was waiting for a NIPSCO worker to take care of a natural gas leak. After she was told the gas would make it unsafe for any animals, Scott allowed officers to go inside..."  More
