8 pets neglected, 1 dead, in 'uninhabitable' apartment of woman arrested in case

PLATTSBURGH — Police say they found one dead animal and several others starving inside a Plattsburgh apartment Tuesday afternoon. Plattsburgh City Police were called to Janie E. Abernathy's home after someone reported the alleged abuse. When officers arrived, police say, they found seven cats and a dog living in deplorable conditions, with fleas and feces covering the residence. One cat was found dead. Police believe the animals had not been fed in several weeks and were confined to the Lakeside Apartments residence at all times..." More
