City officials take increasing steps to help hoarders: Zoning Enforcements Association planning hoarding seminar, Housing Authority considering task force

It used to be that someone who collected lots of miscellaneous items and hated to throw anything out was known as a pack rat.
Sometimes a pack rat would pack so many things into a home that he or she could barely walk around in there and the home became an unhealthy place.
The problem has always existed, but only lately has the general public become aware of how bad it can get, through television programs such as “Hoarders,” said professional organizer Leslie Jacobs.
