Tampa woman gets 5 years in prison for hoarding animals



A 47-year-old Town 'N Country woman was sentenced today to five yeas in state prison in an animal hoarding case involving dozens of animals.
A total of 22 dogs, seven birds and a rabbit were seized on Feb. 8 from the home of Cynthia Annette Cuervo at 8202 W. Crenshaw St. Many of the animals were emaciated and coated in filth.
Cuervo was sentenced to 25 years, with 20 years suspended and 20 years of probation.
Authorities also said two middle-school age children were living in the home and they were placed in the custody of the Department of Children and Families.
Cuervo had been charged with 32 counts of unlawful confinement or abandonment of an animal and five counts of cruelty to animals, one count of battery on a law enforcement officer and one count of obstructing an officer with violence.
Cuervo was not supposed to have any animals at the time. The February raid was the fourth time in six years animal control officers responded to her home..."  More
